A materiality study conducted in 2014 with the help of an external consulting company, which involved several steps (see below), pointed out the issues considered relevant to Klabin, according to its stakeholders, contributing to direct its operations in communities focused on short-, medium- and long-term results. Since then, these issues have been permanently monitored by the company, providing many opportunities to develop dialog and a relationship with its stakeholders, continually considering the social and environmental contexts in the regions where Klabin operates.
The results of the Local Development Forums, deployed in the towns of Correia Pinto and Otacílio Costa/Santa Catarina, as well as in Goiana/Pernambuco, are examples of initiatives that supplement, update and deepen the knowledge obtained in the first study. These forums were carried out after the development of materiality studies focusing specifically on the regions, providing a more detailed view of the reality of these municipalities. In addition, since it voluntarily started to support the Sustainable Development Goals – a United Nations (UN) initiative to engage various sectors of society on an agenda focused on the greatest global challenges in this area –, Klabin began to include the correlation between the SDGs and material topics in its Sustainability Report, which demonstrates the vitality of the study.
In 2018, it will include data such as consultations made on various occasions, including visits to customers, audit procedures, and the progress of work carried out at the Local Development Forums, among others.
